Colnett provides the view from the quarter deck, written with an eye towards publication and his patron. Much happened that Colnett was either unaware of or chose not to record. Taylor provides supplementary information and a valuable, if partial, corrective.

Colnett’s primary objective during this period was to prepare the ship for departure from the coast. On August 18, with the requisite tasks completed, Colnett took his leave from the Northwest Coast.
